Sofia Bratishko

My name is Sofia, and I’m a clinic RN at the U. I came to the US from Kazakhstan 12 years ago as a high school exchange student and decided to stay for college, graduating cum laude with a degree in finance. I spent the next five years in commercial real estate and healthcare finance & operations. After reassessing my values and long term life goals, I went for a career change and I’ve been a nurse for 2.5 years now. 

Upon joining the U, I noticed a stark contrast to my previous workplaces. Safety and well-being of employees were not prioritized, which left me feeling that administration sees us as expendable rather than valuable contributors. I believe that this coupled with post-pandemic challenges and the increasing cost of living in SLC have created extremely difficult and hazardous conditions for healthcare workers. I want to utilize my skills to advocate for improvement in wages, working conditions and benefits for fellow healthcare workers.
